A portfolio business with no portfolio
For small businesses that deserve better big brand service.
Haswell Creative builds brands, and the digital infrastructure that carries them, for the businesses most agencies skip — food trucks, plumbers, accountants, daycares, golf clubs. Every project starts the same way: find the one thing a customer came to do, then build the identity, the site and the systems underneath around making that easy. That same question is now being typed into ChatGPT and Perplexity instead of Google, so we structure every site to be read, understood and quoted by the models answering it. No templates, no filler, no launch-and-leave.

The people who run the businesses we rebuilt.
Owners and operators across food, trades, finance and recreation — the ones answering the phone. The work speaks; they said it out loud.
“I used to spend my morning answering the same three questions on Instagram before I'd even opened the window. Now people just show up knowing what they want.”
Marco Poloni
Owner, Polo Poutine
“People used to call and I could tell they'd been putting it off for months. Now they book online already knowing what they want to talk about, and that changes the whole first meeting.”
Fiona McDougall
Founder, McDougall Financial
“We do beautiful work and had one photo to show for it. Now people browse the portfolio before they even call, and they're asking for the kind of project they saw rather than something vague.”
Ollie Bergstrom
Owner, Greenskeeper
“Catering used to be whoever happened to ask at the counter. Now it comes in as a real request with a headcount and a package already picked, and it's become a business in its own right instead of a side favour.”
Samuel Okonkwo
Owner, Butcher & Block
“Our whole thing is being open when nobody else is, and our website never said it. Now that's the first thing people see, and we're getting new customers who found us specifically because they needed somewhere open at 11pm.”
Lena Petrova
Owner, After Hours Café
We can’t wait to build with you.
The ones we get asked most.
Straight answers on cost, timing, process and what happens after launch. Anything missing, ask — a person reads every message.
01What does Haswell Creative actually do?
We build brand identities, websites and the digital infrastructure underneath them for small businesses — identity, copy, design and launch handled in one place, so nothing gets handed off half-finished. Every site is built to be read by people and by the AI models they now ask first.
02What kinds of businesses do you work with?
Owners and operators, mostly the ones answering the phone. Our work falls into five groups: food and beverage, home services and trades, accounting and finance, recreation and hospitality, and health and education — the food trucks, plumbers, accountants, daycares and golf clubs most agencies skip.
03Can I see examples of your work?
Yes. There are thirty-eight projects, start to finish: thirty-one small-business rebuilds and seven self-directed concepts. Every one has a full case study in the work index, and you can browse them by sector from the menu.
04How much does a project cost?
It depends on scope, so rather than publish a number that fits nobody, the estimator on this site asks a few questions and gives you a real range at the end. It takes about a minute, and Jeff reviews every quote personally before it goes out.
05How long does a website take?
Most projects run eight to twelve weeks end to end. Expedited work runs four to eight. We do take rush jobs under four weeks when the scope genuinely allows it, and we will say so plainly when it does not.
06What does the process look like?
Three stages. First we find the question — what customers phone to ask, what they get wrong about you, which jobs you want more of. Then we build in the open: identity, structure, design, then the real thing in a browser, with no big reveal at the end. Finally we stay past launch while real traffic settles in.
07What is “AI-first design”, and does it actually do anything?
More customers now ask ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini before they touch a search engine, and the answer usually names two or three businesses. Being one of them depends on whether a model can read your site and trust it: real semantic HTML, structured data stating what you do and where, and answers written plainly enough to be quoted. It is not a bolt-on or a monthly fee — it is how we build.
08Can you improve AI visibility on a site you did not build?
Usually, yes, and it is often the cheapest useful thing we can do for an existing site. We audit what a model actually sees when it reads your pages, fix the structure and markup underneath, and rewrite the handful of answers that matter. It does not require a rebuild.
09Can you work with the brand we already have?
Yes, and often that is the right call. If your identity is working, we anchor to it and spend the budget elsewhere. If it is fighting you, we will explain why before suggesting you change it.
10Who will I actually be working with?
There are three of us. Jeff Haswell reads every quote before it goes out, Meg Lanning runs the care platform that keeps live sites patched, and David Alba builds. Nobody is handed to an account manager, and nothing gets passed to a junior at the point it stops being interesting.
11Do you use templates?
No. The design is the variable, so each site looks nothing like the last one. What we do reuse is the machinery underneath — booking, content, the way a site gets published — because that part has to keep working at two in the morning, and novelty belongs in the part a customer sees.
12Do you write the copy and supply photography?
We can. Some clients arrive with everything ready, some need the words, and some need the words and the photography. It is a question in the estimator because it genuinely moves the number.
13Will our team be able to edit the site ourselves?
If you want to, yes. We build on WordPress when content changes often enough to matter, and hand over a site your team can actually use rather than one that needs us for every paragraph.
14What platform do you build on?
Whatever fits the job. WordPress when your team needs to edit content themselves, a static or headless build when speed and security matter more, and custom work when the site needs to do something specific. We recommend rather than default, and we will tell you what each choice costs.
15Can you build an online store?
Yes — Shopify for direct-to-consumer, WooCommerce when the shop sits on a WordPress site. Catalogue size and needs like subscriptions or wholesale are what drive the cost.
16What happens after launch?
Launch is when real traffic starts finding the gaps, so it is the wrong moment to disappear. We stay on while that settles. After that a care plan is optional — some clients need it, some genuinely do not, and we will tell you which we think you are.
17What does a WordPress care plan cover?
Our managed platform watches for hack attempts, patches the vulnerabilities it finds, and keeps backups you will hopefully never need. It also covers uptime checks and small content updates on request. Meg runs it.
18Do you offer hosting?
Yes, and it covers the whole stack rather than just the files: managed hosting and deploys, domains, DNS, email, TLS certificates, backups and monitoring. The point is one number to call when something is down.
19What is Divi VIP?
Priority support for sites built on the Divi page builder. It covers the fixes, the updates that occasionally break layouts, and the customisations the builder will not do on its own — custom CSS and child themes included.
20What is Haswell Book?
A booking system that lives on your own site instead of sending customers to someone else’s. Six steps from choosing a service to confirmation, per-specialist availability, and an admin side with day, week and month views that your team can actually run.
21What is Haswell Chat, and will it run up a bill?
A site assistant that answers from your own content — services, team, FAQs — and can book an appointment without leaving the conversation. There is no AI subscription behind it, so it cannot run up a bill per message. When it does not know, it falls back to phone or WhatsApp rather than guessing.
22Can we buy the booking or chat plugin on its own?
Yes. Haswell Book and Haswell Chat both install on an existing WordPress site and work independently. Chat gains an in-conversation booking flow when Book is installed too.
23What is the managed subsite platform?
Your content lives with us and your website is generated from it, with booking and chat already wired in. You edit through an owner dashboard rather than WordPress, and there is no server, no plugin updates and no hosting bill on your side. It suits appointment-led businesses best — clinics, studios and trades.
24Should we choose a project, a care plan or a retainer?
A project is one defined piece of work, priced up front — most rebuilds run this way. A care plan is monthly cover for a site that is already live. A retainer is a standing block of design and build time each month, for businesses shipping changes often enough that separate projects stop making sense.
25Do you handle SEO and advertising?
Every site is built to be found by both readers that matter now: search engines and AI models. That means clean structure, fast pages, sensible metadata and the structured data that lets an assistant quote you. We do not run ongoing ad campaigns.
26Is the number from the estimator a fixed quote?
No. The estimator gives an indicative range from a handful of answers — a starting point for a conversation, not an offer or a contract. Real scope can move the number either way, and nothing is binding on either of us until there is a signed, written proposal.
27Who owns the website once it is finished?
You own the final deliverables once they are paid for in full. We keep ownership of our underlying tools, components and methods, and we may show the finished work in our portfolio unless you ask us not to. Your signed agreement is what governs the detail.
28Where are you based, and do you work remotely?
We work with clients remotely as standard, so location is rarely the deciding factor. Calls, reviews and handover all happen online, and you see work in progress in a real browser at every stage.
29How soon can you start?
Three people means a handful of projects at a time, and we are taking work for the next quarter. If the timing does not suit you, or the project is not the right fit, we will tell you that instead of quoting.
30How do we get started?
Run the estimator for a range, or email hello@haswellcreative.com and we will set up a call — either reaches the same three people. It helps to come with the one thing your customers keep phoning to ask. That is usually where the new site starts.
