Registration season on a site with none

Youth sports registration is a two-week rush every season, and Ironside FC Academy was running it through a paper form parents had to print, fill out and drop off. We moved the whole rush online, before it could cost them another season of enrollment.

Deliverables
Responsive site, program pages, online registration, coach profiles
The Ironside FC Academy homepage shown on a laptop and a phone, a photograph of a coach working with young players and the headline Training for Young Players.
A genuinely good photo of real training sessions, sitting above a site with no way to actually register a child.

The problem

Ironside runs three age-banded programs and a short, brutal registration window each season — spots fill within days once word gets out. The site described the philosophy well enough but had no registration mechanism at all: a PDF form, downloadable, meant to be printed and handed to a coach in person.

For parents juggling school pickup and their own jobs, a print-and-drop-off form is a real barrier, and Ironside was quietly losing families to programs at other clubs that let you sign up from a phone during a lunch break.

There was also no visibility into who the coaches actually were — a real concern for parents entrusting a child to a new program, and one Ironside had no way to address without a lot of reassurance during a first phone call.

The approach

Three moves, in order.

01

Split programs by age and level

Youth Development, Competitive Squad and Goalkeeper Clinic each get their own page, so parents register their child into the program that actually fits.

02

Move registration online, completely

A short form with age-group selection replaces the printed PDF, confirming a spot the same day instead of whenever a coach next processes the paper stack.

03

Introduce the coaching staff

Coach profiles with credentials and role — head coach, goalkeeper coach, youth coordinator — give parents the reassurance a phone call used to have to provide.

The work

What we built.

The new homepage

The new Ironside FC homepage on desktop and mobile: young players in green duotone under an uppercase headline reading Built on the ball, with a registration chip.
The homepage, built for the two-week rush. Registration is the loudest thing on the page, with a closing-date chip creating the urgency the paper form never could.
The training programs page: a three-card grid for Youth Development, Competitive Squad and Goalkeeper Clinic, each with a line icon and short description.
Three programs, clearly separated by age and level, so parents register into the right one the first time.
The register your player page: a form with player name, age, program dropdown and a row of selectable age-group pills.
Registration that takes minutes instead of a printed form and a drop-off.
The our coaches page: a three-column grid of coach profile cards with photos on a training field, names and credential captions for head coach, goalkeeper coach and youth coordinator.
Real coaches, with real credentials, visible before a parent commits a season's worth of Saturdays.

Also delivered

A waitlist toggle for each program that activates automatically once registration fills, since the previous system had no way to capture demand once the paper form ran out.

“We used to lose registrations just because a form needed printing. Parents sign up between meetings now, and our coaches finally have a page instead of just a reputation.”
