Everyone seems to be on board when it comes to marketing and SEO for business blogs. However, not everyone gets the memos.

We see so many websites making rookie mistakes that can make otherwise great content and web design look a little sloppy. Simple mistakes that don’t take much effort to correct can cause a content-centric SEO strategy to be thrown off course. We’ve compiled a list of four common errors in SEO content that you should avoid.

Content is lacking focus
You’ve probably come across content that begins well and is relevant to your search, but then quickly goes completely awry. It doesn’t provide the information you are looking for, it doesn’t explain what you want, it is incoherently or doesn’t fit into the larger website.

This type of unfocused, rambling text is not the same as sharp, effective SEO content. This content is not easily shared and has limited potential for linking. It’s simply not good. You can’t know what your customers are looking for if you don’t have the right information. Instead, use listicles, tutorials, guides, videos, and why articles.

Unoptimised Images and Apps
Text-based content is powerful and engaging, but it can also be dull if that’s all you have. Web designers who want to harness the power of content marketing need to ensure that they have a balanced mix of content.

Search engines won’t accept any images, videos, or apps you produce. Search crawlers cannot deduce an image from text. They will ignore it, even though it may be worth thousands of words to humans. They must be optimized with tags, headings and subheadings.

Inconsistent Upload Calendar
Many sites post seven articles every four or five months. But consistency is the key. It is essential that you upload your content regularly and on a consistent basis. Only this way can you track its effectiveness and keep up with changing times.

It is also important to have a solid strategy for ongoing optimization and archiving old content.

Bad Copy
The final enemy of a successful SEO content marketing campaign is plain old bad copy. Poor English with lots of errors and non-engaging language. This issue can hold back your marketing strategy. You have two options: either improve your writing or hire a content producer.
